Party in the Park

My sister was visiting this weekend. Her oldest and youngest boys both have birthdays this month, so we combined the two with a picnic in a local park. The cousins really enjoy getting together, and having a new place to explore only makes it better.

There were several different playgrounds. Slides, swings, climbing gyms, merry-go-rounds, a few of those animals on springs . . . lots of stuff to do and keep from getting bored.

My youngest and my sister's youngest hung around together. Well, okay, my youngest tried to hang out with her cousin, but he just likes to run, so she followed a good bit. The older ones all interacted, or not, whatever they felt like at the moment.

Middle DD found lots of caterpillars and enjoyed playing with them for most of the time. She even attracted lots of other girls in the park who wanted to be friends because she was playing with caterpillars. (I'm not sure what's up with her hair in the photo, but the caterpillar is on her arm).

There were also paved trails that we walked for a bit. Next time we'll have to remember to bring the kids bikes or scooters so we can explore further.

And, of course, it just wouldn't be a party without birthday cake. Lets face it, when you're using natural colors, it's just easier to use toys on top of the cake for boys. (It's also less work). Since the age difference between my two nephews makes themes rather difficult, this year we chose it for them. Grandma bought some Disney "Cars" napkins and we went with that. A crushed dirt road and some cars from the toy store made for a great cake. Hopefully they'll enjoy the movie as much as they did their cake.
