Signs of Spring

For the past few years, in the month of March, my youngest child and I walk around the house looking for "signs of Spring." Of course I point out the robins that return sometime in late February, but what we're really looking for are signs of new life.
Our first flowers bloomed this week. I'm not altogether certain what these are, they look like wild crocuses. These flowers used to grow wild in my grandmother's yard. After my grandmother died five years ago I was able to transplant a redbud (tree? bush?) from her yard. I was pleasantly surprised the following spring when several flowers bloomed at the base of the redbud. This is the redbud. In the backyard I found the red maples attempting to start some buds. And the lilacs are well on their way to showing some lovely green.

The Chinese Dogwoods are starting to wake up. Underneath my hyacinths are starting to peek through.

And in the front flower beds my tulips and daffodils are starting to grow.
