Cakes, Cakes, Cakes

Since we've eliminated artificial colors and flavors from our diet, decorating cakes has been a bit more challenging. I've come to love the pastels that natural colors create. The bright, neon colors on so many bakery cakes now make me gag. I've found that I can get more creative when the pastels aren't really going to work well. (Mostly on my nephew's cakes). This is a Mardi Gras King Cake. Decorated traditionally with yellow, purple and green sugars. The sugars were made with turmeric, red cabbage juice, and liquid chlorophyll.
A Cars cake done for my nephews. Crushed graham cracker dirt, and liquid chlorophyll green for the grass.
Middle DD's 8th birthday. Green - liquid chlorophyll, pink - beet juice, yellow - turmeric.
For my nephew's birthday all I did was to add a yellow frosting border to a plastic plate.
A Baptism Cake for my youngest nephew. Yellow turmeric and liquid chlorophyll for green.
A Barbie Cake, for youngest DD's 5th birthday. Yellow - turmeric, Pink - beet juice.
Oldest DD's 13th birthday, celebrated at our Thanksgiving gathering. Yellow-turmeric, green - liquid chlorophyll.
Nana's birthday - also celebrated at our Thanksgiving gathering. Yellow - turmeric, green - liquid chlorophyll.
Bob the Builder - Youngest DD's 4th birthday. The overall's were frosted in chocolate, then I sprinkled India Tree's Blue crystal sugar on top. Yellow - turmeric, Flesh - mix of turmeric, chocolate and beet juice, Tools - turmeric and chocolate.
Castle Cake - a combined celebration for our youngest girls. I had fun with various candies. On the corners are toilet paper rolls wrapped in foil and topped with ice-cream cones. The round circles are Pearson's Mints. The door is made from Ghiardelli Squares. St. Claire's Organic Tarts and Planet Harmony Jelly Beans decorate the edges.
